Kaptur house

This has got to be one of the best, if not THE best, major remodel I have ever been awarded to lead in my 20+ year career. I was given the opportunity here to design a major remodel and restoration of this one of kind home originally designed by architect Hugh Kaptor, a local desert modernist architect who pioneered many of the infamous Palm Springs mid century modern residential and commercial buildings the desert area is well known for. This home, which is clearly not mid-century style, was one of his favorites. It is a home considered part of the organic architecture movement on permanent collection for at the PS art museum's architectural design center.
    This was a 2 year, design and construction process where we carefully re-designed the interiors: eliminated walls and opened up small spaces to create a more open-plan kitchen to dining room; opened up a small, dark office off the great room to create a beautiful sunlight, indoor/outdoor expansive bar; opened up the primary bath suite by eliminating small storage closets to create an open double vanity area to walk-in closet and a large combination shower and steam room; re-designed the pool, spa, and backyard hardscape area along with the ADU casita. 
     All of this was done in keeping with Hugh's original architecture in mind, in tact, and highlighting his amazing pyramidal wood ceilings and plaster soffits even more! 
     While I did all the schematic designs, construction documents, and interior design, I felt more like a steward for Hugh on this job as it was a 2 year challenging,  labor of love!

Buttonwillow Bath

A primary bath conversion from a half bath and closet in a contemporary desert modern style home in Palm Springs. We designed custom curved cabinets and other radius features to match all the same curves throughout the house. The goal was to evoke a desert modern spa vibe.

Poplar - Modern MCM

A Mid Century modern home originally built in the early 1960s by a student of Eichler. This Eichler inspired home was completely renovated and restored to meet current structural, electrical, and energy efficiency codes as it was in serious disrepair when purchased. Numerous and various design elements were inconsistent with the original architectural intent of the house from subsequent remodels as well. Retro modern open-plan kitchen & dining

This was a whole house major remodel to open up the foyer, dining, kitchen, and living room areas to accept a new curved staircase, custom built-in bookcases, and two sided view-thru fireplace as well as renovations to all bathrooms and basement.  Most notably, the custom glass mosaic fireplace was  inspired by LAX int'l arrival terminal tiled mosaic walls designed by artist Charles D. Kratka in the late 50's for the 1961 installation.

Colonial Revival - modern farmhouse kitchen

An expansive addition and remodel to a traditional Colonial revival two story home. We designed and added over 800 sf to the first floor: kitchen, family, guest bedroom/bath, mudroom, laundry and garage, along with upstairs additions to the kids bedrooms to incorporate new en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets. All existing areas were also remodeled for an updated contemporary look mixed with modern farmhouse accents.

Spanish + Mid-century Modern

A Mid-century modern makeover to a traditional 1938 Spanish home on the historical registry. Homeowners wanted to lighten up the spaces, acquire a better, more functional furniture layout, and incorporate their love for 1950s style furnishings without compromising the architectural integrity of this house. A few rare vintage 1950s pieces along with many custom designed and fabricated pieces helped make this transformation happen. Palm Springs Mid Century vacation

Classic Mid century modern original Alexander house. Phase 1 remodel in 2017 was doing the exterior: adding pool, spa, firepit, paint, and custom designing/fabricating the aqua starburst front door.  Phase 2 remodel this year 2018 I re-did the floors throughout, kitchen, and completely remodeled both bathrooms.

Flower Power - Sisters' suite

New girls bathroom & bedroom designed for two young sisters to share. My concept was to create a fun, whimsical feel by creating a pattern of colorful falling flowers in various shapes and colors. Custom designed and hand cut flowers made out of stained glass and other glass tiles embedded into sheets of white glass tile.

Bird Bath

     New girls bathroom in adjacent Playroom, designed for two young sisters to share as well as used by guests.
      My concept was to create a whimsical, yet more grown-up feel by creating a pattern of white birds and butterflies in flight, throughout a bluesky background.    Custom designed, hand cut swallows & butterflies made out of stained glass with other glass details embedded into sheets of gradient blue glass field tile.
